Day 9         Guadix  -  La Peza          Saturday  04/05/2019 22.5 km      Height difference 430 m = 4.3 km effort = total 26.8 km 8.5 hours of which 4 pauses, 25, 15, 60, and 5 minutes Left at 7 am into the cold and sunny morning we are getting used to. Easy walk out of town and along a meadow along the foot of a range of hills, the usual type round here with lots of holes and vertical grooves. After a while the path went down from the beautiful sunshine and view of the Sierra Nevada into a valley which was enveloped in a cold and humid cloud. However the track led through a pine forest and then a gorge between high and steep rock formations and finally out we came above the first village, Purullena, after 8 km. Breakfast at last!  Pleasant walk through fields and olive groves - olives and almonds are planted here - do you say almond groves? Through the next villages, Marchal, Los Baños de Graen...

Day 8          Alquife  -  Guadix          Friday  03/05/2019 24 km         Several small blips steeply up and down, but mostly steadily down from                     1200 to 900 m 7.25 hours of which 3 pauses, 5, 30 and 45 minutes Breakfast at 7 am with the Dutch/Spanish couple, Afonso and Pauline. Out at 7.30 into a cold morning. Fortunately I had gloves which had lived in my pack for years and not been used since my first long walk. As I was getting out my gloves Afonso and Pauline, overtook us. The French couple had left long before us. After a while walking with a constant view of the snow-capped mountains we crossed a dry river bed and soon the path dipped down to a lovely green valley with a stream running through it, in fact two branch...

Again fresh and sunny, although overcast skies were forecast. In fact it was sunny all day and very windy most of the time. Since we had not had breakfast we stopped at the first village, Dolár, and the bar was open!  At the following village we went all over the place in search of a bar. That was where, on the central square with a market, we came across the row of old people sitting on a long bench. I asked to take their photo explaining that I was 79 years old and they told me that the lady at the far end of the bench was 90! Found the bar in the end and had an involved discussion which we did not want be interrupt which explains the length of the pause. Went throug...
